The iPhone Duo release date was Friday, October 23, 2026. Apple announced its first foldable iPhone on September 9, opened pre-orders on October 16 and put it on sale a week later in more than 70 countries and regions, with 28 more added on October 30. You can order one today from Apple and the major US carriers, but you will probably wait months for it: Apple’s US store was quoting late January 2027 delivery within about half an hour of pre-orders opening, and average wait times were still 89 days at the end of October.

The launch could have been narrower. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported, as summarized by MacRumors on November 2, that Apple first planned to wait until November and release the phone only in the US and China. It went wide instead, and Gurman said Apple rushed the Duo to market without enough inventory to meet demand.

Where to buy the iPhone Duo now
Apple
The most reliable route is the Apple Store online, the Apple Store app or an Apple Store. Buying from Apple gets you home delivery or store pickup, Apple Trade In, AppleCare+, Apple Upgrade, financing and carrier activation in one checkout. Apple has limited online orders to two units per customer to slow down resellers.
US carriers
Apple sells and activates the iPhone Duo with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, and each carrier also sells it directly. Carrier deals are where the largest trade-in credits are, but they usually require a specific plan and a 24- or 36-month commitment, so check the total cost and what happens if you switch carriers early.
Other retailers
Apple’s launch materials list only Apple’s own channels and the three carriers. If you see the iPhone Duo at another store, confirm it is an authorized Apple reseller and that the phone is new and unactivated before you pay.
Why the iPhone Duo is so hard to get
Demand outran supply from the first minute. Macworld tracked US delivery estimates jumping to January 25, 2027, within about half an hour of pre-orders opening, and Apple was quoting January 22 for a 256GB model on release day. UBS Evidence Lab, which tracks more than 30 markets, put the average iPhone Duo wait at 89 days as of October 30, down a week from the previous reading. For comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro averaged about five days.
Store stock was thin as well. According to Gurman, Apple sent roughly 80% of its initial inventory to retail stores, but some stores still received as few as 50 units, which is why walk-in buyers on October 23 often left empty-handed.
Resellers made it worse. Listings on eBay appeared within hours of the sell-out at well above retail, with reported asking prices ranging from about $2,600 to $10,000. Those prices have already started to slip in some markets as early reviews and display complaints cooled the hype.
Known issues to check before you buy
Some early owners reported cracks along the fold of the inner display, sometimes with a crunching sound or bright lines across the screen. Apple said it is “aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units” and asked affected owners to contact AppleCare for a replacement; AppleCare+ is not required. Apple has not said how many units are affected or what causes it. Separately, Apple’s hinge support guidance says hinge problems cannot be fixed with software and may require replacing the inner display assembly.
That makes the return window and warranty more important than usual. Buying from Apple or a carrier keeps both simple. Buying from a reseller may not.
Best way to get one now
- Order from Apple and accept the wait. Your place in line is locked in at $1,999, not resale prices.
- Check store pickup, not just delivery. Store allocations differ from online estimates, and pickup slots can open when stores are restocked.
- Compare a carrier order. If a carrier’s date is earlier, the trade-in credit may also beat Apple’s, but read the plan terms.
- Skip marketplace sellers. Listings above retail carry risks of scams, activation locks and warranty problems, on top of the price.
- Inspect the inner display when it arrives. Open and close it several times early in your return window and contact Apple if you see lines or hear cracking.
